Abstract:
A total of ten Classical grave stelae from Potidaia are published here for the first time, some of them of considerable interest from the point of view of the ono- masticon. The majority of these stelae have inscriptions containing names of cleruchs (Athenians and others) who settled at Potidaia immediately after the Potidaia episode (430/29 BC). It follows that the dead men to whom these stelae belonged camefrom south Greece and were directly connected with the dramatic historical events of the Peloponnesian War, which were enacted in the region of Potidaia.A few of the inscriptions published here do not belong to this category, since they are later and are connected either with the second cleruchy at Potidaia (362/1 BC), or with the city of Kassandreia, which succeeded Potidaia in 316 BC.
