Abstract:
Three black-figure lekythoi dating from the first half of the 5th century BC were found in tile-covered tombs excavated at Ayios Vasi- leios in Achaia, near the ancient harbour of Panormos.Lekythos ΜΠ 940 is of chimney type, has a scene with a chariot drawn from the repertoire of the Dionysiac cycle, and is associated with the cycle of the Haimon painter. ΜΠ941 is also of chimney type, has a scene with two similar pairs of figures, and is associated with the cycle of the Emporio painter. ΜΠ942 belongs to type PL, has a scene of Herakles and the Nemean lion, and is associated with the Athens 581II group. These vases are commonly found in central Greece, but are rare in Achaia.
