Abstract:
The War Museum of Athens is one of the most famous museums in Greece, where a number of collections and a variety of firearms are exhibited. The study of different types of firearms, their nationalities, manufacturers and techniques, is very interesting and challenging. The Spanish pistol of 1739 belongs to the large collection of the donor Mr. P. Sarog- los. It is a typical Mediterranean “Miquelet” flintlock pistol (0.295 m.). Below the frizzenspring, on the lock plate, is written the name of the Spanish gunsmith “Pasquale Feo” which helped date the object. In the rear of the ferrous barrel there are some typical symbols of French Kings and also the letter “R” with remnants of gilding. The other decorative parts are made from silver. The conservation treatment involved the complete dismantling of the pistol and its subsequent remantling.
