When was, Georgios Chortatsis Katzourbos, written?

The article deals with a new opinion on the dating of Chortatsis’ play Katzourbos. presented by Stephanos Kaklamanis (in his recent publication Research on the person and time of Georgios Chortatsis ( Έρευνες για το πρόσωπο και την εποχή του Γεωργίου Χορ- τάτση -1993). The author of the article, using textual evidence, contradicts Kaklamanis’ theory that dates the play in 1581 or 1582, contrary to the opinion of Linos Politis (expressed already in 1964) following which the play was written between 1595 and 1601. Spyros Evangelatos comments the same citations of the text used by Kaklamanis supporting his view, demonstrating false interpretations or conclusions and documentating his opposition on the proposed dating. On the whole the author of the article supports the opinion of Politis since Kaklamanis arguments do not offer new evidence are not sufficiently documented and based on unproved and arbitrary assumptions.
