Abstract:
The article presents new evidence concerning the use of interludes in recently discovered texts of religious drama, written or represented in the Cycladic islands and the island of Chios during the 17th and 18th centuries. Several of these plays are under preparation to be published in the following years by the author of the article. The use of short scenes, forming a «middle performance» in religious plays of the Aegean sea, permits to compare informations concerning interludes connected with plays belonging to the Cretan and eptanesian dramaturgy and thus reconsider their role in performances. This comparison offers the possibility to retrace the use of interludes in modern Greek theatre and localize their influence in Greek theatre history.
