Abstract:
Fifteen Cist tombs of LH III A date ( 1425 - 1375 B.C. ) were excavated in Nea Ionia of Volos, not far from the river Anavros, the ancient river of Iolkos. The tombs contained skeletons in the customary position ( f i g. 7 ; plan 1 ) and yielded an important series of pottery ( fi g s. 1 - 5), one sword 0.73 m. long, daggers, spear heads etc. (figs. 6,8).It is thought certain that the tombs belong to the extensive cemetery of Mycenaean Iolkos.
