Opinions have been expressed on the chronology and the genuineness of the famous decree of the Athenians which was found in 1959 and which concerned military measures which were to be taken on the proposal of Themisto- cles in the affair of the Medians ( Persians ). Then followed the story about the discovery of the stone which appears to have been found first in 1847 at Troezen when there was a plan for sending it away. The suitable authorities were informed about this and they asked for its transfer to Athens. An inscribed stone was sent, but containing another inscription. The stone with the decree of the Athenians was then hidden to be found again about 120 years later.
