Abstract:
This articles tries to reconstruct the plot and the dialogue text of one of the first plays of Jacovos Kambanellis, Dance Over the Ears of Wheat, performed by the Lemos-company in 1950 in an Athens’ suburb theatre. The pieces of text are scattered in three different sources: the publication of the first act in a cultural review in 1949, a fragmentaric manuscript in the archive of the author (a great part of the first act and the third act) and an adaptation for radio, which gives a shortened version of the original play, with corrections by the author himself. The text evidence gives the impression of a “work in progress” with at least four different versions. The play is analysed and compared with the “Blood Wedding” of Lorca and “The Bride Song” of Notis Pergialis.
