A new play by Rigas Velestinlis : annotations on a provisional edition

The play The wind of love (the wind is here called idiomatically “saganaki”) found in the state archives of Sibiu in Rumania, ascribed to Rigas, has become an object of conflicting views about its authorship. Its editor derives her arguments by the content of the text, palaeographic examination and comparison with Rigas’ handwriting. Yet these are not sufficient to prove her thesis. The style of the play, which is unsuitable for Rigas and the possible unpleasant consequences on his position and life do not make out a case for this view. The definite edition of the play with extended annotation will help to solve this problem.
