Abstract:
This paper presents a series of thoughts regarding the Neolithic figurines found at the lake-side settlement of Dispilio. The relationship between the thoughts expressed in this paper and Dispilio figurines is developed in a frame of an effort to interpret the construction and use of these figurines. At the same time, it is founded on a general view that concerns the restless efforts of theoretical Archaeology to interpret the Past. It is also founded on the restless efforts of humans, regardless the era they live and act in, to get acquainted with their surrounding and to interpret the amazing phenomena they observe and dream of.The analysis conducted in the paper is, in essence, an open discourse that tries not to go back to other previously developed interpretative approaches of Neolithic figurines construction. This discourse, though, intentionally remains free and fully «subjective», ready to be subverted by another approach, which, in turn, will not be the first and surely won’t the last.
