Colonoscopy or coloscopy?

Abstract:
Relying upon linguistic principles concerning the formation of compound words in Greek, the author advocates for the use of the term κολοσκόπηση (coloscopy) instead of κολονοσκόπηση (colonoscopy), which is commonly used by Greek doctors and medical personnel. The erroneous term is an influence from English “colonoscopy”, whereas in other languages it is the correct form that prevails (e.g. French “coloscopie”, etc.); even in English, other similar compound words are formed using colo- and not colono-, e.g. colostomy, colopathy, etc.
