World War II in the work of Giorgos Seferis
Abstract:
Giorgos Seferis was not only an inspired representative of Greek poetry and a Nobel laureate, but also a successful diplomat who served his country in extremely difficult moments of its History. During the 30s Seferis held posts in England and Albania, and then, after the outbreak of WWII, he accompanied the Free Greek Government in exile to Crete, Egypt, South Africa and Italy. His traumatic experiences from the war and the struggle of Greeks for freedom are expressed troughout his poetry, and especially in his collection Ship’ s Log II, published in 1944.
