Abstract:
The treatise by Georgios Gemistos, better known as Plethon, On Virtues belongs to his earlier works, when he had not yet undertaken the task to oppose Christian doctrine and Aristotelian philosophy. It is, nevertheless, obvious that the philosophical and ideological platform on which the treatise is built is Platonic, thus marking the beginning of Plethon ’s ongoing endeavor to re-introduce Platonic ideas in late Byzantine Greece.
