Μελέτες και άρθρα
Pipina Vonassera and Sofia Tavoulari were protagonists of the greek stage during the second half of the 19th century. In fact, they used to be the greatest actresses of their time. It was the time of the evolution of the newborn modern greek theatre. This article focuses on their stage presence. Especially it draws analogies and pinpoints similarities between different aspects of their long acting careers. These aspects are referring to: a. interpretations of great roles (Antigone, Medea, Maria Doxapatri, Meropi), b. their personal repertory (including theatrical plays of greek and european dramaturgy), c. their acting skills (recitation, use of voice and body, etc), d. their general contribution to actress’ profession (cooperations with important people in the theatre industry, improvement of the image of Greek actress at the time, and more).
