Abstract:
The escape from Tauris of Iphigenia with the statuette of Artemis, Orestes and Pylades, is depicted in a vase, in wall - paintings and in a mirror. Those items are dated from the 4lh century B.C. to the 1st century A.D. The ancient writers, who have discussed the theme of the get - away of the three youths, are Euripides, Apollodorus, Ovid and Hyginus. The artists, who have made the depictions of the previous items, must have taken into consideration the myth that concerns the escape of the three youths and not a single source, such as Euripides. Apart from the sources the theatrical performance must have influenced the artists as well, who have pictured the temple and the altar of Artemis, the spear of Pylades and the dancing movements of the three youths.
