This is the text of a speech in which the author praised the personality and the work of Cretan professor and academic Manoussos I. Manoussakas. Born in 1914, Manoussakas is an eminent scholar in historical and philological studies, mainly of the late byzantine and post-byzantine period. His numerous books, articles and essays have greatly contributed to the study of Cretan literature under Venetian rule. Drama, poetry, letters and previously unpublished texts of that period have called his attention, giving him the opportunity to display his methodological and scientific dexterity in handling these matters, for which he obtained numerous well-merited distinctions.
