Greek theatrical performances in Odessa during the 19th century : the results of the second theatrological expedition to the archives and libraries of the Ukrainian seaport city

This is the report concerning the results of the second scientific Greek theatrological research expedition in Odessa (summer 2009) at the local archives and libraries. Twenty - seven files of the Ελληνική Αγαθοεργός Κοινότητα (Greek Beneficent Community) were examined. The results of the expedition were fruitful and the data about Greek tourings, troupes. chronology, stages, repertoire, critiques about plays and actors visiting Odessa during the 19th century were mainly drawn from three Russian newspapers (Odesski vestnik, Odesski listok, Odesskia novosti ). The article offers valuable information regarding Greek theatrical activity in the region for the following years: 1867, 1869, 1874-75, 1880, 1884, 1884-85, 1890, 1892, 1894, 1895-96.
