The main objective of this article is to analyze Richard Courtney’s writings, using interpretive methodologies to interpret his basic ideas on learning through drama. His biographical details, teaching methodology and the extent of his influence on Educational Drama are briefly presented in the introduction. Moreover, the article explains the role of dramatistic metaphors which concretized his predominantly abstract writings. His personal use of basic elements and concepts of a dramatic context such as metaphor, symbol, setting, act, actor and audience are also explored. In the end, the epistemological and methodological issues on learning through drama, relating to Richard Courtney’s writings, are discussed.
