Author:
Abstract:
During the 19 th century, there was a strong migratory movement from the interior of Asia Minor to the major cities and ports of Turkey. In that context, Symeon Siniossoglou left his native village of Talash (Moutalaski), in the Cappadocia region, and established himself in Constantinople. There, thanks to his successful commercial activities, he acquired substantial wealth. Symeon Siniossoglou turned out to be a Great Benefactor of Hellenism and of the Orthodox Church, as he supported financially numerous educational and charity foundations, both in Constantinople and in his native village. In the end of the article, the author reproduces the text of Symeon’s will, written in French, by which he left a considerable part of his fortune to the foundations that he had supported during his life.
