The article sketches the personality and work of journalist and writer Ioannis D. Kondylakis (1861-1920). Born in Viannos (Crete), Kondylakis studied in Chania, Herakleion and Athens and was subsequently distinguished as a correspondent of Greek newspapers, as a translator of French literary works, and as an author of novels, short stories and articles. Sincere patriotism, honesty and moderation were the qualities that characterized Kondylakis, whose multifarious talents were hailed by critics of his time.
