The light of Greek civilization in Chile

The Center of Greek Studies of the University of Chile, directed by the author, contributes greatly to the promotion of the studies on Ancient, Byzantine and Modern Greek civilization in Hispanic America. Its activities include translations of Greek authors, both ancient and modern, as well as numerous books and commentaries thereupon. This is hardly coincidental, since the struggle of Latin American peoples for independence and progress has been inspired by the values of freedom and political emancipation heralded by Greek thinkers, and the leaders of the liberation movement, such as Francisco de Miranda and Simon de Bolivar, were great admirers of Greek cultural achievements.
