The author publishes a hitherto unpublished document preserved in the National Library «Cyril and Methodius» in Sofia, Bulgaria. This «Collection of various habits and customs from different parts of Bulgaria» is a text written in Greek by the Bulgarian monk Damaskinos Riliotis (Damaskin Rilski) and describing various social and religious practices of his country: marriage, raising of children, pilgrimages and burial customs are some of the topics discussed by Rilski, who offers valuable information to the researchers in Balkan ethnology.
