Abstract:
The contribution of the Greek historian of the 19th century Constantine Paparrigopoulos was instrumental for the ideological and political construction of Modern Greek national identity. Paparrigopoulos, who, being essentially self-taught, at first had to struggle against the reaction of Greek academia to his appointment as University professor, distinguished himself as the main supporter of the concept of continuity of the Greek nation from the Antiquity to the present time. For that reason, his major work, the History of the Hellenic Nation, remains a monument of nationalist historiography.
