Medea-fugitive or Medea-vindicator? (E. Med. 1056-80)

Examining, from a textual, logical and psychological perspective, the second part of the so-called “big monolog” of Euripides’ Medea (v. 1056-80), the author concludes that the verses 1056-58, 1060-66, 1068 and 1069-75 are in fact interpolations, despite the fact that numerous scholars advocate for their genuine character. In the frame of that endeavor, she highlights the oscillation of Medea between repentance and revenge as a token of the tragic heroine’s inner conflicts.
