Phonological phenomena in evolution in common Modem Greek
Author:
Abstract:
The author explores some phonological phenomena that characterize contemporary Modern Greek language, evidencing an ongoing shift in pronunciation. Namely, she examines the phenomena of synizesis, denazalisation of /b/, /d/, /g/, pronunciation of γγ and simplification of consonant complexes that are hard to pronounce. Citing numerous examples from common use of the language in oral communication and the media, she succeeds in explaining these changes according to the precepts of modern linguistics.
