Dino Campana : his life and work
Author:
Abstract:
The poet Dino Campana was born in 1885 in Marradi, NC Italy. His life was blighted by a serious mental illness which forced him to spend long periods of time in mental hospitals, where he eventually died. His work greatly influenced modern Italian poetry, and he is rightly considered as a “cursed poet”, like Verlaine or Rimbaud. His Canti orfici (1914), a collection which combines verse and poetic prose, is characterized by an intensely lyrical style which elevates the everyday to a symbolic dimension.
