The translation of literary texts in the Parnassos review (1877-1895)

In the late 19th century, the Parnassos review greatly contributed to the promotion of foreign (mostly European) literature in Greece, by means of publishing a considerable number of translations of literary works. The author catalogs all the translations published between 1877 and 1895 and formulates a series of very interesting remarks about their statistics, i.e. their source languages (predominance of French, followed by English, Italian and so on), their genre (mostly prose, but also poetry and theater), their target language (purist or vernacular Modern Greek) and their literary scopes and qualities.
