In memory of Konstantinos Palaiologos

The sacrifice of the last Byzantine Emperor, Konstantinos Palaiologos, defending the besieged capital of the Empire and refusing to surrender despite of the alluring offers of Sultan Mahomed, has inspired many writers, poets and artists who extolled his heroic death on May the 29th, 1453, and recognized him as a symbol of resistance of the cultural and humane values of Hellenism against the forces of oppression and tyranny.

Αποτελεί ομιλία πού εκφωνήθηκε στήν αίθουσα τελετών του Φιλολογικού Συλλόγου Παρνασσός κατά τήν 29η Μαΐου 2008, έπέτειο τής 'Αλώσεως, μετά τήν τέλεση του αρχιερατικού μνημοσύνου, χοροστατοϋντος του Μακ. Αρχιεπισκόπου Αθηνών καί πάσης Ελλάδος κ. 'Ιερωνύμου Β' καί τόν προλογικό χαιρετισμό του Προέδρου τοϋ Συλλόγου 'Ομότιμου καθηγητή κ. Ίω. Σ. Μαρκαντώνη.
