In recent years, increased attention has been given to the education within the regular school system of an increasing sector of the student population: children with special educational needs. Among this category of pupils, there is a sub-group, namely children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, who are recently receiving great interest from people involved in their education. This study examines general aspects related to the phenomenon of emotional and behavioural difficulties. It begins with a presentation of special education with particular reference to emotional and behavioural difficulties in the international spectrum and in the Greek context, it then focuses on issues of terminology, typology, prevalence and the theoretical approaches to emotional and behavioural difficulties. Following that, it pin-points the significance of schools' and teachers' relationship with children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
