The present work outlines the main results in a study to conducted by the Centre for Educational Research in 1999 in order to evaluate the results pertaining to the performance of Nursery and Primary school teachers obtained in the first national examination for the appointment of teachers carried out by the Supreme Board for the Selection of Personnel (A.S.E.P). The aim of the study was to investigate whether there is a relation between the performance of teachers in the above examination and factors such as sex, age, teaching experience, grade of the degree, place of origin and institution of graduation. The data were selected both from the catalogues comprising the scores of teachers which are kept at the Ministry of Education and the information included in S94 and 698 randomly selected application forms of primary and nursery school teachers respectively. The results showed that the grade of the degree and the institution of graduation were significant predictor variables in teachers' performance. The results are discussed in relation to the predicted variables and address a number of questions which seek further investigation.
