Abstract:
The paper provides an overview of the relationships of infants with their grandmothers. In the first chapter we describe the main factors that may affect of their relationships and in the second chapter we summarize the results of several developmental studies, which, under the perspective of the Attachment Theory, have investigated the infant-grandmother relationships.In the third chapter we describe a number of studies focusing on the relationships of adolescent mothers and their infants and the crucial role of the maternal grandmothers in the development of their grandchildren. The implications of the above studies as well as several methodological problems are discussed.
