The article investigates the concept of informal curriculum and relevant terms: implicit curriculum, culture of ethos of the school,unwritten curriculum, hidden curriculum or paracurriculum, climate or atmosphere. These terms are examined through review of the relevant literature in Greece and abroad, and it is suggested how these terms differ from each other, as well as how some terms appear to be more appropriate or more extensively used than others. On the basis of previous pieces of research, the article presents some basic aspects that the informal curriculum appears to have, while some general conclusions from research in the field are also outlined. The article goes on to suggest, on the basis of the author's doctoral research findings, another way in which the informal curriculum could be considered, that is as developing at the levels of the classroom, he whole school and the school's social context.
