Abstract:
In this article we explore whether the "halo effect" influences the perceptions of teachers in the classroom, concerning their attributions in case they rate a pupil who has committed a serious or medium fault.A research was conducted to a sample of 82 teachers who were engaged at schools in various geographical areas of Greece. Teachers were given four photographs of children and four possible scenarios of "faulty" behaviour in order to relate each scenario with the appropriate photo according to their opinion. Moreover, a semi-structured interview followed about the reasons of their choices.According to the results of the research, the teachers are expecting from their pupils with the advantage of the "halo effect" to show a more socially desirable behaviour and not to commit the "fault" in relation to their pupils who do not have the "halo effect ” and commit the more serious "faults".
