Abstract:
In the present study certain research findings related to family factors that influence professional growth and choice are being discussed. These findings are based on the 'theory of attachment', the study of 'parenting style', the 'social-cognitive approach' of career and the 'systemic family theory'. The major conceptual and empirical problems of these models are briefly indicated, research findings are presented and some promising lines of development are suggested. Following that, specific comments are made with regard to limitations of current psychological research on the family variables that may affect young people's career development. The paper concludes with implications for educational and professional choices and directions for future research.
