Abstract:
The current study investigates the cases of four students of the graduating class of a Lyceum in Nicosia, during the academic year 2003-4, with hearing problems. These four cases provide us with the opportunity a) to study the factors which led to the inclusion of deaf children in the public schools in Cyprus b) to present the conditions of the inclusion before and after the enactment of the law in 1999 which puts into force the inclusion of deaf children in the mainstream and c) to provide suggestions for the establishment of schools bared on principles of equality tolerance and acceptance of the impaired children. Consequently the design of the curriculum should be such so as students with hearing problems have the right to fully participate in the school activities and most importantly to be considered valuable members of it.
