The aim of the present was to examine the Verbal Intelligence Quotient (VIQ) of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and to detect possible influences of sex on their VIQ. 79 children with ADHD, 50 boys and 29 girls, aged 6-12 years old, and 79 controls who were matched for age and sex, participated in our study. All children with ADHD met the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for ADHD. The 5 scales of the Greek version of WISC-III were administered to all children. Our results showed that the children with ADHD performed statistically significant lower than controls in all 5 verbal scales and their VIQ was lower but sex differences were not detected.
