From the beginning of the 1990s and onwards, a large number of Albanian immigrants came to Greece, mainly because of the collapse of the communist regime in Albania. Ten years later, at the beginning of the first decade of 2000, some associations of Albanian immigrants were formed in several cities of Greece. The present paper focuses on those associations which maintain classes of teaching the Albanian language to the next generations of Albanian immigrants that live in Greece. More specifically, this paper discusses the scope and the structure of these "community schools" and further shows the efforts made by Albanian institutions in Albania as well as in Greece for the enhancement of teaching the Albanian language. The active participation, however, of Albanian immigrants themselves to this effort is considered as a very low one.
