Abstract:
The paper examines the current education system in Bulgaria. Although in the past two decades the education system in Bulgaria has faced a couple of reform processes, since 2006, when the National Program for Development of School and Preschool Education (2006- 2015) was adapted by the Bulgarian Parliament, the education system in Bulgaria has been deeply reformed. Aiming at presenting a detailed picture of education in Bulgaria, the paper focuses on the education acts that determine the education development, the management at national, regional, municipal and school level, the finance mechanism, and the structure of the education system. The study has also a special emphasis on primary education: the teaching process at primary schools, recent trends, today's issues, primary school curriculum. Some of the main problems are also discussed. The text contains a couple of figures that present statistical data on the current development of Bulgarian education. The paper concludes with outlining what the education system in Bulgaria needs to do in the nearest future as to find solutions of the most important problems.
