Despite their increasing and widespread implementation in many Western countries, there are currently no records of mentoring programs operating in Greek schools. The present article emerged from the pilot implementation of a peer mentoring program in two intercultural, lower secondary schools in Attika. In view of promoting further applications of such programs in Greek schools, this paper draws on the English speaking literature to review the types and scope of mentoring programs in education. Particular emphasis is placed on peer mentoring as a distinct type of mentoring that can contribute towards the school adjustment and inclusion of immigrant students.
