In recent years Greek society has engaged in a lively debate about whether foreign students should be allowed to parade carrying the Greek flag on national holidays. How has the term "nation" been used in this context? I describe and analyze three basic positions, which differ as to how the "boundaries" of the nation are viewed. With the occasion of the school parade, members are stimulated to reflect on such themes and the issue of the "boundaries" of the nation moves from the universe of doxa to the universe of discussion and opinion. A ritual of the nation can thus become the occasion to renegotiate the content of the concepts "we" and "they".
