The Braille is the universally used method of writing for the visually impairment people. The transcription of Braille in the Greek language had not the advantages of the system, which are the simplicity and its mnemonic.It has been proved, that the existence of contractions in the English Braille code, contributes considerably to the increase of speed of reading and to the reduction of vol-ume of printed Braille materials. Furthermore, internationally acceptable Braille codes have been created for computers use, for scientific symbolism and for mathematics. The 8-dot code is used by some of them.The aim of this article is to analyze the problems of the Greek Braille and also to pre-sent the proposals for its improvement that will significantly contribute to the improve-ment of education of blind people. The similarities and the differences between Greek and English Braille code are being studied. The contractions the of the English Braille code are presented and analyzed. The creation of the contractions of the Greek Braille code it is suggested according to the international models. Moreover, later Braille codes, which are used internationally, are presented. The nonexistence of such codes in the education of Greek blinds should be emphasized.
