Abstract:
Inclusion of people with disabilities in the U.S. A. has changed quite a bit during the past thirty years. The initiatives for change have come from several sources, including a focus on civil rights, ethical issues, and legal issues. Laws have been passed which support inclusion, though they do not generally mandate full inclusion. Unfortunately, initiatives do not consistently have associated financial support. While many initiatives have become well-established, fewer may becurrently considered self-sustaining. It continues to be necessary for families, educators, and people with disabilities to engage in active, ongoing advocacy. Systemic change can continue to occur with coordinated advocacy efforts.
