Abstract:
This study presents evidence that linguistic grammars published around 1970 have a different source of topics to which their examples refer, from school grammars for foreign language learning, of the same time. Linguistic grammars are shown to be sensitive to the sociopolitical conditions of the time, unlike school grammars which are more reserved in the choice of topics. Some implications of the study for long-scale investigations are presented.
