Abstract:
Is the name of the Mycenaean goddess pe-re-*82 identical to Πρειια, a ritual invocation of Pergian goddess in Pamphylia? The survival, in Pamphylia, of achaean linguistic elements, especially of ritual titles, like Fάνασσα, ΔίFια etc., which can now also be read in mycenaean texts (wa-na-sa, di-wi-ja etc) can be adduced as the main support of this proposed identification. Linguistic elements as well as mythological tradition witness to the establishment of Mycenaean populus in Pamphylia from the middle of the 2nd millenium b.C onwards. If the identification of pe-re- *82 with pe-re-j a : Πρειια is sound, the sign *82 can be deciphered as ja. On the basis of this value all the words containing the sign can be satisfactorily read.
