Abstract:
The main subjects of this study are the origin and function of loanwords in the periodical press of the Greek Left. The etymology of specific words, a similar political vocabulary emerging in most European languages at the same time, is rather complex (here, French, Russian, English and German are taken into account). Apart from naming new meanings these loanwords seem also to fulfill the sociolinguistical function of group identification. Our conclusions are based on a corpus of words from magazines of the period 1970-1983.
