Two tendencies have been formed in the Greek education with regard to the mother-tongue teaching. One supports the fact that lingual teaching must rely originally on the description of the language as a system of rules while the other considers it right that it must be achieved by communication basically and with no proceedings to the lingual system. In the present article what is pointed out is the need of modernizing the lingual teaching, and what is proposed is the creation of a new teaching model in which both tendencies will be creatively combined.
