Abstract:
The adoption of a new legal framework concerning recreational diving activitiesin Greece has generated an increased demand for the development of divingtourism in the country. The present report draws upon previous experienceregarding the promotion of sub-aquatic activities found elsewhere, analyses thepotential of establishing diving tourism in the Greek Marine Protected Areas, anddescribes what an adequate management plan should ideally encompass, in orderto ensure the conservation of the marine environment and subsequently the longterm viability of this highly profitable form of ecotourism.
