Abstract:
This paper presents a number of results that followed from the study of the acquisitionof PRO in Greek by Goodluck and Terzi (1996). Based on the fact that children distinguishthe different referential properties of the empty subjects of sentential complementsof the verbs prospatho 'try' and thelo 'want', it is concluded that they have acquiredthe category PRO by age 4. Several of the details of the above study are presented forthe first time here and the results are discussed in the light of recent work on the acquisition of PRO and control in English (Broihier and Wexler 1995).
