Τhis paper discusses other-repetition with ratifying function as a conversational device that conveys acceptance of the other's contribution. On the basis of natural data, it is claimed that the expression of agreement and support is reinforced by repetition's constituent property of reusing previous material, in this case by reproposing it in the ratifying speaker's own utterance. Thus, both the social meaning created and the linguistic means through which it is encoded contribute to a highly cohesive and cooperative interaction instance.
