Abstract:
This report presents a heuristic algorithm for the optimal hub selection in amaritime transport system which is based on the hub and spoke model. This modelhas been successfully tested in other maritime systems such as the USA aviation. Its implementation in the maritime transport and particularly in areas such as theAegean Sea gave very good results with respect to resource savings, improvementof services and drastic reduction of the total time needed for traveling in favour oftourism and shipping companies.
